How to - Mimecast - Blocked Email Notifications
Hi all,
The Technology team is constantly working to improve the MDLKL group’s security stance from a technology perspective, with this in mind, we will be moving to Mimecast as our email filtering provider. This move will bring a few changes to the way we manage and deal with malicious emails, particularly around email attachments and embedded web links (URL’s).
Below are some of the changes you can expect to see when accessing your emails in the coming weeks.
We’re so used to links in emails; we don’t always think before clicking them.
Unfortunately, this can allow hackers to steal your login details which would give them
access to our company’s computers.
To help protect us, we are rolling out some new technology.
Every time you click a link in an email, the system will security check the site you are
trying to access.
If the site is good, you will be allowed to continue as normal. If the site is bad, access
will be blocked.
Will I see a change?
While this protection is largely invisible, there are some changes you may notice. When you
hover over a link in an email, you will see the address as:
http://protect-au.mimecast.com (or similar). This allows our security partner, Mimecast, to
scan the link.
When you click on a Mimecast re-written link for the first time –
When you click on a link in an email or request an email attachment to be security checked,
you will be asked to enrol in the Mimecast Targeted Threat Protection service to
continue.
When prompted in the browser, enter your work email address, and hit ‘Get Authentication
Code’.
You will receive a one-time authentication code by email which you will need to enter into
your browser where indicated.
You will only be asked to enrol once on each device you use to access your work email (e.g.
laptop and mobile). Enter your code in the browser page, and click on “Enrol Device” to
continue.
User Awareness Challenge –
For a small percentage of links that you click in emails, we will show you a webpage with
information about the email you received and the website you are trying to access.
We will ask you to make a decision about whether you are happy to continue to the
website, or if you want to change your mind. By prompting you to think before you click,
you will help us strengthen our defences.
If the links is safe, you can continue to the page using “Continue to Page”
If the links is considered to be malicious, you will be blocked from accessing the page.
When trying to Access Potentially Malicious links –
If Mimecast found that the link you are trying to access is malicious, you will be presented
with the page below.
