Operations

WARNING: Do not collapse the portafilters on the portafilter support. This support has scales imbedded and collapsing can damage them.

Detecting the portafilters/filter baskets

  1. Call the “Portafilter Management” submenu. Select “Add Portafilter” and the prompt “Please insert portafilter” will appear on the display.

  1. Place the portafilter into the portafilter support and release. If the weight of the portafilter appears on a green background on the display, it has been registered and you can return to the submenu. If the warning ‘PF scan failed’ appears on the display, return to submenu and follow instructions again.

Assigning a recipe

  • You can use the parameters Weight-based and Time-based to define the desired grinding mode, which is then automatically executed by the grinder

  1. Turn the controller to select the “Edit Recipes” menu item and confirm your selection by pressing the controller.

  1. Turn the controller to select an existing recipe and confirm your selection by pressing the controller.

  1. Scroll through and confirm the recipe before selecting ‘PF Allocation’.

  1. Select your desired portafilter and confirm by pressing the lower button (Tick)

Setting or changing the grinding weight/grind time

  1. Select the desired recipe by turning the controller as stated in “Assigning a recipe” above.

  2. Press the lower button. The set grinding weight/times will flash.

  3. Turn the controller to set the desired grinding weight/time.

  4. Confirm the set grinding time by pressing the upper button (Tick symbol) or discard the setting by pressing the lower button (X symbol)

NOTE: If you do not make any settings for more than 4 minutes, the changing of the settings which has been started will cancel.

Interrupting grinding

  • Weight-based recipes cannot be interrupted, because a portafilter is zeroed each time it is inserted and the grinding process will start again.

  • Grinding is automatically interrupted when you remove the handle and will continue when you put it back in.

  • If you do not wish to continue the grinding process, press the controller. The display jumps directly to the selected mode and the previously suspended time is deleted.

Calibrating the load cell

NOTE: It is recommended to calibrate the load cell at six-month intervals - if handled correctly (eg. not collapsing handle on portafilter support).

Materials Required

  • Grinder brush

  • 1kg calibration weight

  1. Turn the controller to select the “Service” menu item.

  1. Select “Calibrate” item and confirm your selection by pressing the controller. Follow the instructions on the display.

  1. Place the 1kg weight on the portafilter support/basket holder as soon as the prompt appears on the display and continue to follow instructions.

  1. Remove the calibration weight from the holder when the message that calibration has been completed appears on the display.

Cleaning

Materials Required

  • Grinder Brush

  • Damp Chux Cloth

  • Grinder Cleaner

Daily Cleaning

CAUTION: Ensure the grinder has been turned off before cleaning

Cleaning the housing:

  1. Use a grinder brush to clean the following parts:

  • the spout

  • the portafilter holder/support

  • the screws for adjusting the portafilter support

  1. Pull the drip tray forward and out of the grinder. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the casing and drip tray as required.

  2. The load cell cover is fixed to the grinder by a magnetic holder. Lift the cover upwards to remove from the grinder. Use a grinder brush to remove ground coffee from the area of the load cell.

  3. Re-attach all dry parts removed for cleaning.

Cleaning the spout system:

  1. Pull the spout downwards out of the lock.

  2. Use a grinder brush to clean the spout on the casing (spout locking mechanism).

  3. Clean the spout with a damp cloth and then dry it.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the surface of the spout. Fine scratches can negatively impact the grinding result, as ground coffee adheres to the scratched, which can lead to dosage fluctuations.

Cleaning the bean hopper:

Materials Required

  • Grinder Cleaner

  • Grinder brush

  • Slot screwdriver

  1. Close the bean hopper by sliding in the funnel slide.

  1. Grind any coffee beans left in the grinding mechanism until the grinder runs empty.

  1. Use a slot screwdriver to undo the securing screw for the bean hopper.

  1. Rotate the bean hopper anticlockwise to release it from the grinder and lift it upwards to remove it from the grinder. Transfer the beans into an airtight container.

  1. Pour a cap of grinder cleaner into the grinding mechanism directly from above.

  1. Clean and replace the bean hopper and tighten the screw. If necessary, unlock the grinding degree slide.

  1. Set the grind size to 10 (all the way course).

  1. Press the upper button to start the grinding process and keep it pressed down until the grinder cleaner has been completely ground.

  1. Add a small amount of coffee beans back into the grinder and grind the same amount of coffee as grinder cleaner. This will flush out any leftover cleaning particles.

Cleaning the flapper:

NOTE: The flapper should be cleaned every 2-5 days.

  1. Remove the grinder lid; proceed as described above in ‘Cleaning the bean hopper’ for steps 1-5.

  2. Remove the flapper from its place in the grinder.

  3. Clean the flapper with lukewarm water then dry it.

  4. Replace the flapper in its place in the grinder.

  5. Put bean hopper back together.
